World Parkinson’s Disease Day:

World Parkinson’s Disease Day is marked on April 11th each year to commemorate the birthday of Dr James Parkinson (1755 - 1824), who first described the condition. Wearing the red tulip chosen as the symbol of Parkinson’s Disease helps to raise awareness of one of the most common progressive neurological disorders and to show support for people around the world who are living with Parkinson's Disease or care for someone with the condition.

World Parkinson's Day is celebrated to raise awareness of Parkinson's disease and how it effects on individuals, families and the wider spectrum of community. Greater awareness will cut down the stigma associated with the disease, enhanced community understanding and awareness will lead to better quality of life for those suffering with the condition.
